The Navajo art influence is very characteristic of this unique and cultural style.

The Navajo tribe inhabited this region producing beautiful textiles with vibrant patterns full of energy, crafts, and baskets. Those are the main elements that we found in the SW style. The iconic look of the “Wild West” fuses together with elements from multiple cultures and lots of history, but it’s translatable to modern homes in our day

Spanish settlers were among the first ones to arrive in the American Southwest.

They implemented their construction methods with the material they found, using adobe for the walls and red clay for the roof.

Thus, the Spanish colonial style is also very present in the Southwestern decorative style in many of its elements.

For example, the white stucco walls, earth colors in decorative elements, and wooden beams.

  • Use an earthy color palette: you can use colors like terracotta, brown, beige, orange. These colors recreate the dessert of the American southwest lifestyle.

  • Get natural furniture

Wood adds a rustic touch. Wood beans are classic in these types of decorations, and it's because when the settlers built their houses, the adobe walls weren't finished with moldings and the beans were the support of the roof and walls.

If you want, you can add some wood chairs or accents. Don't be afraid of mixing different types of wood when it comes to decorating; this can be a perfect combination.

  • Light walls

The Spanish colonial-style inspires them. White walls illuminate the room and highlight the accent colors. As we said before, the colors of the Southwestern style are vibrant, so that it would be an excellent combination with the white walls.

  • Play with texture: using different textures in layers creates depth in the room. You can mix a woven rug with patterns and some leather furniture on top of it.

  • Metal accents are the final touch to your southwestern decoration. They will look amazing! You can choose accents of different colors, finishes, and textures.

  • Natural decoration if you want to use plants, we recommend cactus; they are a very southwest touch in the decoration. Also, you can use baskets, wood accents, rugs, or anything made with natural materials.
